Immigrants who receive non-cash public benefits can obtain permanent residency without the fear of "public charge."

The Biden administration has eliminated the "public charge rule that prevented many eligible immigrants and their family members from becoming permanent residents because they had once received public benefits from the government. The new rule takes effect December 23, 2022.
